NAGPUR: Energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has issued directives to power generation company Mahagenco for improving its performance. The minister had held a review meeting in which he appreciated the company’s improved working in past one year and said that this would translate into lower tariff for state’s consumers.
Mahagenco managing director Bipin Shrimali gave a presentation on Mahagenco’s performance. He said that in past one year the company managed to improve its plant load factor (a measure of efficiency of generation units). The company had reduced the use of fuel oil and the incidence of boiler tube leakage (BTL) had also gone down.
The minister told the officials to study the practices of power companies in the country and abroad and replicate the best ones in Mahagenco. He stressed on 100% recycling and reuse of water used in thermal power plants. He also suggested many measures to increase transparency in purchase of materials by the company and improving the security of the power plants.
Bawankule also reviewed the progress of the company in setting up solar power plants. The company has decided to generate 2,500MW solar power in the coming years.
Mukesh Khullar, principal secretary (energy) too gave several suggestions to improve the company’s performance.
